Diamonds

What is the Red Carpet Season?

Each year there are many “red carpet” events where celebrities compete to be named the most stylish or “best dressed” while they are also competing for professional awards and recognition for their work. While the clothing they wear during such events is heavily analyzed and critiqued, their accessories, hair and makeup are also scrutinized as well. If anything comes close to the kind of attention received by the clothing, it is the jewelry, and celebrities on the red carpet are usually responsible for starting many new jewelry trends.

Of course the most popular stone for wearing while one is strutting up or down the red carpet is the diamond, and celebrities and their stylists manage to introduce new ways of wearing them every single season. This year’s biggest and most obvious fashion trends in diamond jewelry are clearly going to be chandelier earrings and bib necklaces.

Interestingly the chandelier style diamond earrings have been around for many years, and are in fact considered an ancient or “traditional” style in India. As the name describes them, chandelier earrings are significantly longer and more “draped” than any other kind of dangling earring available. While they can be fashioned from any material and use any stones they make their biggest impact when outfitted in diamonds. The size of the stones can really make a huge difference in the overall appearance of the jewelry. Consider Penelope Cruz and her very subdued diamond chandelier earrings compared to Kate Beckinsale’s enormous chandeliers with multiple stones including diamonds and rubies.

Some fashion watchers disapproved of earrings the size of “door knockers”, but the general consensus was that the gold, diamonds, platinum and gems all received some real “pop” when set in the chandelier format.
